Our Members Matter

At Speak Out Advocacy, members are at the centre of everything we do.

Our members are people with intellectual disability.

They are not just part of Speak Out — they lead it.

Membership is free and is for 2 years.

Why Members Are Important

Members make decisions about:

  • What we work on

  • What issues are important

  • How we do our work

  • The future of Speak Out

This means Speak Out is led by people with lived experience.

Members Guide Our Work

We listen to our members.

What you tell us helps shape:

  • Advocacy work

  • Projects and campaigns

  • Training and resources

  • Events and conferences

Your voice supports us to speak up stronger.

Members in Leadership

Members are leaders at Speak Out.

Members can be part of:

  • The Members' Executive

  • The Board

  • Working groups and projects

This means people with intellectual disability are involved in real decisions.

We Want More Members

We are always looking for new members with intellectual disability.

More members means:

  • More voices

  • More ideas

  • Stronger advocacy

Everyone’s voice matters.

Join Speak Out Online – Become a Member Today

Anyone with an intellectual disability can become a full member of Speak Out. Membership is now FREE and for 2 years.

Speak Out has monthly self advocacy groups in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, and peer support groups across the state.

We get together and talk about issues that are important to people with disability and affect our lives.

We work out what we think should happen.

We tell the people who make decisions what we think.

It might be about things like:

  • Government policies

  • The NDIS

  • Transport

  • Accommodation

  • Employment

  • Health

  • Support

  • What is happening for us in the community.

Speak Out is a great way to meet people and learn about your rights.

Sometimes there are casual jobs with Speak Out or times when you get paid to tell people what you think.

We tell our members about these opportunities.

Speak Out members can

  • Vote in Speak Out elections

  • Be on the Members’ Executive

  • Change the Speak Out Constitution
